"To Market" by Maria Friske |
|
MARIA FRISKE:
"I consider myself an american painter and a regionalist, with
particular interest in the neighborhood level and our common cultural experiences. My artistic voice blends community storytelling and documentation. I use a diversity of materials including ceramics
and 3-d objects into the 2-d picture frame. It's a technique I call "two and a half d." The subjects and settings of the paintings are,
to me, places where we experience community or spaces
(even music) in which we share cultural experiences.
Common as they are (the public market, a particular
neighborhood, blues music etc.) they are to me the
best side of the American experience, and all yield time
and again endless surprise and joy."

Drwaing by Santiago |

RAMON
SANTIAGO:
Ramón
Santiago was a private man who shied away
from attention.
He was characterized as a "painters
painter." His
mastery of pen,
pencil, pastel and brush exploded
with exciting new images.
His style? It's unmistakably Santiago.
Fresh. Original. Sensitive
with dramatic
fantasy. Santiago generated elegant images of
beautiful women and odd human-like creatures
masterfully. Through his color,
line and form he delivered fascinating
and enigmatic visions.
"My
paintings are what dreams are made of," said Santiago.
