Zildjian wraps up 'Mission
From Gadd - Episode 2'
Steve
said, "Right
from the first clinic in Fort Collins, CO, we locked
into a nice groove
and I had a great time. The Zildjian
guys
worked hard to put this tour together so I
want
to thank them, all the drum shops for inviting
me, all the teachers for telling the
kids who I
am, and all the drummers for making me feel so
welcome.
There's nothing better than being a drummer."
Anyone attending PASIC
2005 in
Columbus, OH can
see Steve
in
clinic and he will also be inducted into the PAS
Hall of Fame. Until
next time...Mission
Accomplished!

The Mission
From Gadd bus
|
|
In
response to the
enormously successful Mission
From Gadd 12-city
clinic tour throughout the Midwest United States
in April 2005, Zildjian has announced Mission
From Gadd 2 - a 10-city clinic tour in
October 2005, spanning the Southwest and Western
regions of the US.
|
According
to John DeChristopher, Zildjian's Director
of Artist Relations & Event
Marketing Worldwide, the tour will begin in
Fort Collins, CO and finish in Seattle, WA,
with stops in Salt Lake City, UT, Phoenix,
AZ, and Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Fresno,
San Jose, and Sacramento, CA.

& The Mission From Gadd crew

Mission
From Gadd 2 will employ many of the same elements
as the previous tour, including a self-contained
tour bus, a unique Sales Event featuring special
'one-of-a-kind' prototypes and factory selected
cymbals from the Zildjian Vault with Zildjian Sound
Lab experts on-hand, limited edition Mission From
Gadd t-shirts, autograph sessions with Steve and
each day culminating with a rare clinic by the
legendary Steve Gadd.
DeChristopher said, "The response
to our Mission
From Gadd Tour in April of this
year was nothing short of overwhelming, far exceeding our most ambitious expectations.
When it was announced that Steve had agreed to a clinic tour after a 20 year
absence from doing them, the level of excitement from our dealers was unlike
anything we've ever seen, and although we'll never be able to accommodate all
the dealers that want Steve, we're hoping to make a small dent in the time Steve has
available with this 10-city tour that will take us to Colorado, Utah, Arizona
several markets in California, before wrapping up the tour in Seattle, WA."
Gadd commented: "I had such a great time and met so many nice
people on the first tour, I thought it would be fun to do something on the
west coast. For me, there's nothing better than hanging with a bunch of drummers."
DeChristopher continued, "Each clinic will be held in a separate venue to accommodate
as many people as possible. We fully understand that seeing Steve
Gadd in a clinic
setting is a very rare and special event, so our goal is to provide the best
possible experience for our dealers and Steve's many fans. The first 'Mission
From Gadd' tour drew 10,000 fans throughout 12 cities, so it's conceivable that
Steve will make another 10,000 or so 'new friends' on this 10-city tour as well.
But clinic tours are just part of the momentous year Steve has enjoyed. He celebrated
his 60th birthday on April 9th, 2005; he'll receive his Honorary
Doctorate from
Berklee College of Music on September 9, 2005 and will be inducted into the PAS
Hall Of Fame on November 4, 2005. We're all excited to hit the road again with
Steve - the only downside is that now we have to call him Dr.
Gadd!"

'Mission From Gadd' Tour
Concludes
At Columbus Pro Percussion's
10th Anniversary
of 'Drum Daze'
The twelfth and
last stop on Zildjian's "Mission From
Gadd Tour" was Columbus Pro Percussion's annual "Drum
Daze" festival and this year marked their 10-year
Anniversary.
Drum Daze Producer and Columbus Pro President, Jim Rupp, could not have been
more pleased with this year's line up, especially considering the first artist
to be confirmed was none other than the festival headliner, Steve
Gadd. In the
ten years that Columbus Pro has presented Drum Daze, Steve
Gadd had always been
at the top of their list, so to have him there for their 10-year anniversary
was special for everyone.

Steve Gadd
The "vibe" backstage
was incredible. All the artists were
hanging out and swapping stories. Gio came
into Steve's dressing
room to show him a clave pattern they talked
about at dinner the night before. As Simon
was finishing his performance, Steve turned
to Zildjian's John
DeChristopher and with typical Gadd humility
said: "You
mean I have to go on after Simon? Who's idea was that!"
After a short
break and some giveaways, John DeChristopher
introduced the American Drummers Achievement
Awards tribute video of Steve. At the conclusion
of the 10-minute video, Steve Gadd was
introduced to a standing ovation. Dave DiCenso,
Simon and Gio all stood in the wings to watch
Steve. His performance at Drum Daze, like all
the other clinics, began with him playing,
then demonstrating his signature grooves and
interacting with the audience in a relaxed
and informal way. He took questions from audience
members and at the conclusion of his performance
thanked Jim Rupp, Bob Breithaupt and the staff
at Columbus Pro Percussion, and the Zildjian
staff for all their effort in putting together
the two-week tour. |
|
|
He
also thanked all the teachers, stating: "If it wasn't
for all the teachers, kids wouldn't know
who I am." He also thanked all the teachers
for keeping drumming alive and spreading
the word. After a quick visit to his dressing
room, Steve emerged to sign autographs along
with Simon, Gio and Dave to some 500 plus
fans who stuck around afterward.
All in all, Zildjian's "Mission From Gadd" tour was huge success on all fronts. From the
dealer sales events and new Sound Lab Prototypes,
to afternoon autograph sessions, to sold-out
clinic performances, it was Zildjian's most
successful clinic tour ever, with Steve playing
in front of a total of over 8,000 people
in 12 cities.
Mission accomplished!
